CDC Resources believes that individuals with developmental disabilities have the
right to live in the community as full participants and the right to resources in
support of their goals and aspirations. Day Services is a core service that supports
this broad objective.
Day Services enable individuals to build skills through group and individual
instruction, community activities, recreation and communication classes in an adult
learning environment. These services are designed to assist individuals so they can
live, work and spend leisure time in the community.
-
Habilitation: provides individuals the opportunities to participate in activities
as an alternative to work. Individuals may take part in computer training,
money and social skills, arts and crafts and other individually tailored
programs. Individuals also have the opportunity to participate in functional
academics to improve their reading, writing and math skills. One on one
counseling is also available on a limited basis.
-
Community Inclusion: individuals are encouraged to explore their community
choices to discover a place where they can better connect with the community.
Leisure time and volunteer placements are developed based on the interests of
individuals to involve themselves in the community.
Some of the more common areas chosen for development include:
- Money Management & Shopping
- Positive Interaction With Others
- Community Service Activities
- Safety/Survival Skills
- Arts and Crafts
- Personal Care (Hygiene/Dress)
- Nutrition and Meal Preparation
- Personal Growth (Hobbies/Wellness)
- Computer Classes
Services are offered at CDC facilities in Monticello and Rensselaer facilities
as well as in the community. The program operates four days per week with
transportation provided in the morning and afternoon. Specific elements of the
individual's Day Services plan are selected in a person-centered process by the
participant and/or their guardian.
Day Services are often blended with Work Center participation to meet work and
self sufficiency expectations.
