CDC Resources has a number
of initiatives to reduce organizational dependence upon government funding
and further the mission of the organization. The primary goal of each
is to generate profits to support needed programs in our target communities.
Current ventures include:
CDC Industries
For the past 30 years, CDC has utilized packaging, assembly,
machine processing, custodial services, inventory management
and industrial salvage contracts with area businesses to
meet their operational requirements. This work, done at
Rensselaer and Monticello, provides work experience and
general vocational skills training for persons served within
the larger goal of assistance in becoming more self-reliant.
The business operates with a Special Sub-Minimum Wage certificate
from the U.S. Department of Labor. This ensures that work
done is paid at a commensurate rates tied to industrial
norms.
A growing component of CDC Industries
is done at the contractor's site. Whether this is an
ongoing custodial contract or a one-time salvage operation,
CDC staff supervise the work to be done as part of the bid
price. The program maintains insurance for this work
and pays the workers.
Rest Park Attendant Services
The agency provides attendant
and groundskeeping services for two Rest Parks along I-65
near the Wolcott and Roselawn / DeMotte exits. Indiana Department
of Transportation has contracted with CDC through INARF [Indiana
State Use Law administrator] to maintain these facilities
24/7 since 1995 as part of the states effort to increase governmental
work opportunities for disabled citizens.
These contracts provide employment, over half of the staff
at these parks have a disability, and a modest profit which
CDC uses to underwrite important services that operate at
a loss. The employees take pride in maintaining these state
facilities 365 days out of the year regardless of the weather
or usage volume by motorists and truckers.
